Genuine Aromatherapy Supplies vs. Fragrance Oils; Finding a Reputable Aromatherapy Supplier

What is aromatherapy?

Before getting into the difference between real aromatherapy supplies and product and imitations, let's first define aromatherapy to help aid understanding. Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils for mental, spiritual and health benefits, ranging from easing stress to clearing up skin.

Essential oils are derivatives of certain fragrant plants and trees, including the lavender tree.

What makes aromatherapy supplies genuine?

Genuine aromatherapy supplies must contain essential oils.

Would an aromatherapy supplier try to sell me imitation products?

There's generally no conspiracy in the aromatherapy supplier world. However, people sometimes confuse essential oils with vegetable oils, such as almond oil and olive oil. Vegetable oils, also called carrier oils, are used to dilute essential oils. Otherwise, essential oils are too potent for use on the skin.

Another common mistake is thinking fragrant oils are synonymous with essential oils. Fragrant oils imitate the smell of that of essential oils but are not plant based. Rather, they are chemically manufactured.

How do I find a reputable aromatherapy supplier?

I don't recommend any aromatherapy supplier. However, simply look at labels before buying. Make sure the label doesn't read "fragrance oil" and that the ingredients are plant based. Further, you might find it helpful to create a list, which you can easily research online, of the common essential oils so you know what to look for.
